ChemASAP Privacy Policy

Effective date: November 3, 2026

ChemASAP ("the app") is a free iOS app published by Phil S. Baran / Baran Lab, Scripps Research. This policy explains what information the app does and does not handle.

No account required

ChemASAP does not require you to sign up, log in, or give us your name, email address, or any other personal information to use the app.

Preferences stored on your device

Settings you choose in the app, such as which journals you follow, display options, or saved articles, are stored locally on your device. We do not receive them. If you delete the app, they are deleted too.

Public journal feeds and Crossref

To show the newest articles, the app and our server (hosted on Railway) request publicly available content: journal RSS/ASAP feeds from publishers such as ACS, Nature Portfolio, Wiley, Science/AAAS, and ChemRxiv, and public article metadata from Crossref. These requests do not include personal information about you. Like any internet service, our server and hosting provider may briefly log basic technical data (for example, IP address, time of request, and device or app version) for security, troubleshooting, and keeping the service running. We do not use this data to identify you or build a profile of you.

Opening articles

When you tap an article, it opens on the publisher's website or in an in-app browser. From that point, the publisher's own privacy policy and cookies apply. We do not control third-party sites.

Ads and sponsors

ChemASAP may show sponsor messages or ads inside the app to help keep it free. If we show sponsor content, we do not share any personal information with sponsors. If we ever add a third-party advertising service that collects data, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy details first, and ask for your permission where Apple or the law requires it.

Anonymous ad-tap counts

When you tap a sponsor banner, the link passes briefly through our server before opening the sponsor's page, so we can give sponsors basic, aggregate click counts. For each tap we record only the time, which ad was tapped, and whether it came from the iOS app or the website. This tap log does not include your IP address, name, email, device identifier, or any other information that identifies you, and it is not linked to you or used to track you. We also keep aggregate daily counts of how often each ad was shown. Sponsors may receive only these anonymous totals.

If you choose to contact us about advertising through the website inquiry form, we receive the name, email, company, and message you enter, and use them only to reply to your inquiry.

What we do not do

Children

ChemASAP is a general-audience research tool. It is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will post the new version at this address and update the effective date.
